Special Prayers Held Around Eretz Yisroel on Erev Rosh Chodesh Elul
by Betzalel Kahn

Following calls by maranan verabonon gedolei Yisroel thousands of Jews of all backgrounds held tefilloh and his'orerus gatherings to rouse rachamei Shomayim in light of the tragedies befalling Am Yisroel, as Jewish blood is spilled like water in Eretz Hakodesh and enemies from without and within rise up against us, leaving us with no recourse other than to take up our forefathers' trade by increasing our prayers and supplications.

In of the halls of Torah and botei medrash Jews gathered to recite selichos and Tehillim, reciting the prayers for Yom Kippur Kotton and the Thirteen Attributes. Gedolei Yisroel designated Erev Rosh Chodesh Elul as a "day of prayer" and pleading to He Who Dwells On High to put an end to our sorrows.

Numerous mass tefillos were held in the holy places, including the Kosel Maarovi and the gravesites of the Tanoim and Amoro'im in the Galilee, as well as the gravesites of tzaddikim at Har Hazeisim Cemetery, Har Hamenuchos Cemetery and elsewhere.

At the Kosel thousands recited Tehillim after Yom Kippur Kotton until arvis. A tefilloh gathering was also held in Bnei Brak at the ohel of Maran HaAvi Ezri zt"l, and a continuous recital of Tehillim was held at Beis Knesses Zichron Moshe in Jerusalem.

Maranan verabonon expressed hopes and blessings that the many prayers on the eve of a month of rachamim and teshuvoh would have the power to stir rachamei Shomayim, bringing redemption and salvation to Am Yisroel.
