Thousands of Daf Yomi learners, from avreichim to
baalei batim to yeshiva students, are eagerly awaiting
a large gathering on Sunday 1 Tammuz to mark the end of
maseches Chulin (a week after the worldwide Daf Yomi)
and the beginning of maseches Bechoros in the
international Daf Yomi cycle, including a practical
demonstration of the mitzvah of reishis hageiz whose
laws are detailed near the end of maseches Chulin.
The event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Beis Medrash
Tiferes Bochurim, the beis medrash of Maran HaRav
Yosef Sholom Eliashiv shlita on Rechov Slonim at the
corner of Admon in Jerusalem's Meah Shearim neighborhood.
During the course of the siyum HaRav Eliashiv will
deliver a shiur on maseches Chulin after which
he will be given the honor of performing the mitzvah of
reishis hageiz. Delegations of rabbonim who teach the
Daf Yomi recently visited roshei yeshivos and rabbonim to
invite them to take part in the event held for the Torah's
honor.
After publicizing Sunday's scheduled event the Meoros HaDaf
HaYomi office was flooded with calls from Daf Yomi learners
in Eretz Yisroel and abroad who wanted to participate. In
response, the Meoros HaDaf HaYomi administration decided to
set up a live transmission of the event to several central
locations around the country and abroad.
In Eretz Yisroel the event will be screened live in Bnei Brak
at Bartenura Square. In Petach Tikva it will be at Sharet
Hall on Rechov R' Chaim Ozer; in Ashdod at Beis Knesses
Shlomo in Rova Zayin; in Elad outside Beis Knesses Derech
Hachaim on Rechov R' Meir and in Beitar Illit at the hall of
Beis Knesses Zichron Moshe on Rechov Netivot Hamishpat. Live
transmissions will also be organized in Europe and in the US
in conjunction with Agudas Yisroel. The event will feature a
live orchestra.
