UTJ and Likud Representatives Meet Again
By G. Lazer
United Torah Jewry representatives stressed they must know
who the partners in the coalition will be since they would be
unable to sit together with Shinui. Only after receiving
clear answers would they consult with maranan
verabonon regarding all of the issues raised during the
negotiations, including the disengagement plan.
Late Sunday night UTJ representatives held their third
meeting with the Likud coalition negotiating team, telling
the Likud negotiators about the crisis situation among the
lower and middle classes and large families in particular,
and the deliberate inroads against the chareidi sector and
its institutions, which have suffered major financial damage
as a result of the new economic program, and asked that these
issues be given top priority.
Ilan Cohen, director-general of the Prime Minister's Office,
who was at the meeting to present the main points of the 2005
budget, emphasized Prime Minister Ariel Sharon gave
instructions to prioritize benefits that would rectify the
harsh economic decrees and give preference to the segments of
the population harmed by the recent cuts.
The two sides agreed to meet again on Wednesday.
