by Yated Ne'eman Staff
Following pressure and inducements aimed at the Torah-based
education system lately as part of government attempts to
interfere with study arrangements and the shaping of
education and instruction in talmudei Torah, gedolei
Yisroel, including HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv,

stand firm and wage a battle to safeguard the purity of Torah-
based education.

Six hundred people gathered at a Jewish cemetery in
Herlscheim, located in the area formerly known as Alsace, to
protest the vandalizing of the cemetery last week as well as
the increasing incidence of antisemitism in France. The
gatherers recited Kaddish and lit 127 candles, matching the
number of graves that were desecrated.

By Arnon Yaffa, Paris
Jews are unsure where they belong. Should they stay in
France? Leave? Most of them do not have the liberty to
choose. Jews barely making ends meet are stuck in the
suburbs.

OPINION &
COMMENT
Arguing with Chareidi Educational Success
For an educational system, one important measure of success
is if its graduates become functional, productive members of
society. By this measure, the chareidi educational system has
been very successful, as the overwhelming majority of the
graduates find themselves fully prepared for life.

Additional Luach Information
According to the Ramo (494:3) we do not say tachanun
from Rosh Chodesh Sivan until after Isru Chag (there
are other minhogim that do not say tachanun
until after the seven days of hashlomoh that follow
Shavuos).
On Rosh Chodesh Sivan we do not say tachanun as with
every Rosh Chodesh. The second of Sivan is called Yom
HaMeyuchas, since after yetzias Mitzrayim, Hashem
commanded Moshe to say to bnei Yisroel: "Now therefore
if you will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then
you shall be My own treasure from among all peoples"
(Shemos 19:5) to prepare them for Torah. Afterwards
the third, forth, and fifth of Sivan are the Sheloshes
Yemei Hagboloh when bnei Yisroel waited for
kabolas HaTorah (Mishnah Berurah 494:8, and see
Shabbos 86-88).
