LETTERS, EITZES, FEEDBACK

Dear Editor,

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how much I enjoy the Home and Family section for providing helpful and thoughtful articles for religious women.

I am sure your readers will be interested in a project in my community whose goal is to provide kosher Jewish reading for women and their families.

The Telz Stone Library was started almost three years ago and is run by many volunteers, both women and teenage girls, all of whom give freely of their time. Shortly after the library started, it was decided to go "mobile" once a week. On mobile days, the library acts as a focal point at each of its stops around the kirya. Women come with strollers and toddlers in tow to find inspiring kosher reading for Shabbos and the entire week and as a bonus, run into friends they don't often see. The library is also open most days of the year.

The library subscription is kept low in order to encourage every English-speaking family to take advantage of the library. Fund-raising events are held to cover the enormous cost of purchasing newly published books and to provide social activities for residents in the kirya.

Amongst the annual fund-raising ventures are "An Evening of Entertainment" using the talents of women and children; a summer fair for the children, a bake sale; the sale of buttons from discarded clothing; white elephant items and -- plants. This year the Mobile Library ran an extremely successful sunflower competition.

In the coming year, the Mobile Library is putting together a book which it is hoped will generate much needed funds which will be used solely to purchase books for the library. The book will be a collection of articles by published and non- published authors who are offering contributions that will inspire and inform Jewish women and their families. If anyone would like to contribute an article, please contact us at: nberg@mail.com or fax: 03-725-5953. If anyone would like to donate a book to the library or obtain sunflower seeds (for growing), please phone 02-534- 5835.
