Thousands of Jews from every stream of Judaism attended
dozens of gatherings held at heichalei Torah and
kehillos kedoshos throughout the world to mark one
year since the histalkus of Maran HaRav Elozor
Menachem Mann Shach, zt'l, Monday night and Tuesday.
Following is only a sample of the many that were held. Our
apologies to all the other important efforts that were left
out.
At Yeshivas Ponevezh the heichal where the Rosh
Yeshiva served as a marbitz Torah veyir'oh for 50
years was filled to capacity and thousands of bochurim
and avreichim stood outside in the square where a
giant closed-circuit screen was set up. Participants included
HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman, HaRav Michel Yehuda Lefkovitz,
HaRav Nissim Karelitz, HaRav Chaim Kanievsky and the heads of
Yeshivas Ponevezh.
In Manchester an atzeres was held in the hall of
Machzikei HaDas on Sunday. Speakers included Rav Menachem
Schneibalg, Rav Eliyohu Mann and Rav Chizkiyohu Mishkovsky
from Eretz Yisroel. On Monday a talk was given at Yeshivas
Shaarei Torah by the Rosh Yeshiva.
In Gateshead an atzeres was held at Yeshivas Tiferes
Yaakov. Speakers included the moro de'asra and av
beis din HaRav Betzalel Rakow; the Rosh Yeshiva HaRav
Azriel Yaffa; HaRav Eliyohu Mann, one of the heads of
Yeshivas Ohr Yisroel in Petach Tikva; and HaRav Chizkiyohu
Yosef Mishkovsky, the mashgiach of Yeshivas Orchos
Torah in Eretz Yisroel.
In Lakewood a large atzeres was held at Beis Feige
Hall, which has seating for 5,000. The gathering was
broadcast live to dozens of other locations in the US and
Canada. Speakers included HaRav Malkiel Kotler; HaRav Boruch
Mordechai Ezrachi, rosh yeshivas Ateres Yisroel; HaRav Shmuel
Yaakov Bournstein, one of the heads of Yeshivas Hevron in
Geula; and HaRav Meir Heisler, rosh yeshivas Avnei Nezer of
Sochatchov.
At Yeshivas Mir in Flatbush a large atzeres was
sponsored by all of the local yeshivos. Speakers included
HaRav Shmuel Birnbaum, rosh yeshivas Mir; HaRav Aharon
Shechter, rosh yeshivas Rabbenu Chaim Berlin; and HaRav Meir
Heisler, Rosh Yeshivas Avnei Nezer-Sochatchov in Eretz
Yisroel.
Elsewhere in Bnei Brak a large atzeres was held for
ladies and girls at Bnei Torah-Gefen Poriah Hall, including
several speakers and a presentation on the Rosh Yeshiva's
life. On Thursday afternoon a special atzeres for Bnei
Brak seminary students is scheduled to take place at
Heichalei Malchus on Shlomo Hamelech Street.
In Jerusalem gatherings were held at Yeshivas Be'er HaTorah
in Bayit Vegan and Yeshivas Kol Torah.
In Kiryat Sefer gatherings were held at Yeshivas Imrei Tzvi
and at Beis Medrash Chofetz Chaim. In Achuzas Brachfeld an
atzeres was held at Beis Knesses Yeshuas Dovid.
In the south an atzeres was held at Yeshivas Grodno;
an atzeres was held at Yeshivas Be'er Yaakov; in
Ofakim a central gathering was held at Beis Medrash Or Avi
Ezri; in Yavneh an atzeres attended by Chief Rabbi
Abuchatzeira was organized by the city's kollel
association; and in Tifrach an atzeres with speakers
including HaRav Yaakov Galinsky and HaRav Yaakov Yisroel
Pincus was held.
In Carmiel a central gathering was held at Beis Knesses
Hagodol Moriah. In Tiberius a gathering was held at Kollel
Zichron Meir. In Elad a gathering was led by rosh yeshivas
Knesses Yechezkel, HaRav Boruch Mordechai Ettinger.
