In an interview with Israel and international media, the
captain of the Karine A, captured by Israel Navy
commandos last Thursday, said Palestinian Authority officials
were directly involved in the purchase and smuggling of the
50 tons of arms it carried. He also said the initial
preparations took place after the September 11 terror attacks
in the US. Israeli authorities said that the ship was
purchased by the PA on October 10. Staunch Opposition to Knesset Shabbos Law Proposal The Rabbinical Committee for Kedushas Shabbos, under the
aegis of maranan verabonon, unequivocally opposes the
recently proposed Shabbos Law. This law, the Committee
states, contains a very real potential for the expansion of
Shabbos desecration throughout the country. The decision to
oppose this law was unanimously accepted at the committee's
recent meeting.
UTJ MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni called for the immeidate firing or
suspension of Professor Yehuda Hiss, head of the L. Greenberg
Institute of Forensic Medicine at Abu Kabir, over the
retention of parts from autopsied soldiers' bodies. On Monday
it was revealed that a soldier's skull was on display in a
glass case, and most of his body was held in the Institute,
in violation of the law and of basic principles of human
decency.

Another Antisemitic Attack in Paris Suburb A band of Arab youths attacked a synagogue situated in the
basement of an apartment building in the town of Gosanville,
north of Paris, with Molotov cocktails on motzei Shabbos
parshas Shemos. During the attack, which took place at
two in the morning, the home of a Jewish family living above
the synagogue was damaged. Crown Heights Murderers Win New Trial A U.S. federal appeals court ordered a new trial for two
black men who were convicted of civil rights violations in
the fatal stabbing of a chareidi Jew during four days of
violence that shook Crown Heights, Brooklyn, in 1991. Lemrick
Nelson Jr., now 27, is currently serving 19 2/3 years in
prison; Charles Price, 47, is serving a 21-year sentence. Stormy Weather in Israel
A white blanket covered many parts of Jerusalem briefly on
Monday. Snow fell more seriously in the North, cutting off
