There was widespread opposition to the latest round of cuts
announced by the Finance Ministry for next year's budget. The
Labor Party is threatening to vote against it, and one newly-
installed minister already resigned in protest.
Reactions of outrage and shock were heard from all strata of
chareidi Jewry in Eretz Yisroel and abroad, in reaction to
the arson perpetrated against the Degel HaTorah offices in
Jerusalem this past Friday morning, 17 Av. A group of thugs
who seek to force their malevolent outlooks down the throats
of the entire chareidi community, which displays total
loyalty to the Torah leaders of the generation shlita,
set a blaze in the Degel Hatorah movement's offices that
destroyed most of the contents.
The bill for deferred induction of talmidei yeshivos,
known as the "Tal Law," was approved last week in the Knesset
plenum, including a key paragraph that allows the Defense

or quotas, the military service of any talmid yeshiva

Half of Israel's Work Force is not Working About 2.2 million of those of working age in Israel --
between ages 15 and 64 -- are not working nor are they
seeking work. According to recent figures of the Vaad
Hayeshivos, 37,000 men (who may not work at all) received
draft deferrals under the old arrangements, so that all of
these constitute less than 2 percent of all those not
working. Other chareidi men generally work at a rate similar
to all other Israelis. Security Cameras in Old City to Comply with Directives of
Gedolei HaPoskim Israel Police plan to operate security cameras in the
passageways of the Old City in accordance with halachic
directives issued by gedolei haposkim, Major General
David Tzur, staff director of the Internal Security Ministry,
told Interior Committee Chairman Rabbi Moshe Gafni. Hundreds of Yated Subscribers Win Prizes

Salah Shehadeh, head of the Izzadin Al Kassem Brigades of the Hamas, was killed by a one-ton bomb dropped on the building in which he was staying in Gaza. None of the surrounding buildings was seriously damaged and none of the residents in those buildings was killed.
Stewardess Without Wings As I walk into the hotel lobby, I have the feeling of deja vu. Dozens of people mill about with small suitcases. Young Israeli families, singles, a handful of older people are all busy organizing themselves for a four-day odyssey into their collective past. Registration at the seminar. Expectations weigh thick in the air with a good sprinkling of tension. "Will they convince me of something that perhaps I'm not ready for?"
