High blood pressure is a no-win game. It increases your risk
of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular disease. Now add
another unpleasant effect: risk of decline in mental
ability.
Research has shown for ages 59 - 72 over four years that
those with untreated blood pressure had nearly three times
the risk for people to suffer mental decline as those whose
blood pressure was either normal or successfully treated.
Although significant, it's not clear from this study whether
high blood pressure alone caused the dementia or if it was
other related health problems. Regardless, high blood
pressure is associated with a decline in mental ability and
may lead to Alzheimer's disease.
Remember high blood pressure is known as the "silent killer"
because you may not even know if you have it. Do not assume
that just because you walk or jog and stay fit that your
blood pressure is low. Make sure you know your blood
pressure. If it creeps up, monitor it and do everything
within your power to lower it. Keep your weight down, eat a
diet light in fiber, vegetables, fruits and nonfat dairy,
limit stress and keep moving.
So remember: be alive as long as YOU live and do it the
BRUNER METHOD WAY!
