United Torah Judaism Rejects High Court's Conversion
Decision
by Eliezer Rauchberger
The Interior Ministry must register local residents who
convert to Judaism in non-halachically valid procedures, such
as those performed by Reform and Conservative clergy, here or
abroad, as Jews, a panel of 11 High Court justices ruled last
week. Until now, the courts had only forced the Ministry to
accept the validity of Reform or Conservative procedures
performed abroad.

albums that have been distributed in the past and are
currently being distributed.

The Fall of the Mighty
In July 1985, Enron was formed from the merger of Houston
Natural Gas and InterNorth of Omaha, Nebraska, two gas
pipeline companies that made a boring but steady income from
transporting natural gas from the wells to the consumers.
OBSERVATIONS
Observations: Big Drought on East Coast
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
A record-setting drought has settled over the New York region
and much of the East Coast. The Eastern Seaboard of the US is
having a dry fall and winter, the latest dry seasons in a dry
spell that began in 1998. The problem is almost everywhere,
from Georgia in the south to Maine in the north.
HOME & FAMILY
Why Me?
by Rivka Golob
Five weeks ago an immediate relative of mine became
critically ill. I was devastated, pained and bewildered. A
deep sense of despondency overtook me. "Why me? Why doesn't
Hashem send this nisoyon to someone else?" It seemed
overwhelming in every sense of the word -- technically,
financially and emotionally. Almost like slaying a dragon.
