South African Jews Gear Up For Racism Conference The South African Jewish community, headed by its political arm, the Jewish Board of Deputies, is at the center of efforts to coordinate the input of international Jewry to the forthcoming World Conference Against Racism. Over 20,000 delegates are expected to attend the conference, which commences in the South African coastal city of Durban on August 31. With the encouragement and guidance of HaRav Eliashiv, rabbonim and senior dayonim in the United States have started to formulate a set of guidelines for botei din that deal with marriages and divorces, since a serious breach in the correct procedures in these areas has recently come to light. Constant Scheming to Deprive the Poor Man of his Lamb When UTJ MK Rabbi Shmuel Halpert put forward his proposal a year ago to increase the National Insurance Child Benefit allowance from the fifth child onwards, the previous Finance Minister, Avraham Shochat staunchly opposed this proposal, terming it "corrupt." The New York State Bungalow Colony Experience As the "dog days" of summer roll along, with the sweltering heat and humidity beating down on the American landscape, those up in the Catskill Mountains of New York are grateful to have been spared some of the weather's wrath. Although it's hot there too -- temperatures easily rise to the '90s (Fahrenheit) -- the less humid air and more pleasant landscape make it easier to handle the weather. HaRav Shaul Rubin zt'l On the sixteenth of Av, throngs of Torah faithful Jews of Bnei Brak and Jerusalem -- amongst them many dayanim, roshei yeshivos and roshei kollelim -- followed HaRav Shaul Rubin zt'l to his final resting place in the Har Hazeisim cemetery in Jerusalem. Observations: Used Appliances at New Appliance Prices Purchasing electronics and electrical appliance seconds and irregulars is not what it used to be. It seems "sug beit," normally a mark of disgrace, includes a variety of other products as well. All material on this site is copyrighted and its use is
