by Nosson Grossman, Betzalel Kahn, S. Bruchi, M. Plaut and
Yated Ne'eman Staff
When reports about the deaths of the terrorist victims in
Jerusalem were processed, it became clear that many of the
Jews died there with Shema Yisroel on their lips.

The South African Jewish community, headed by its political
arm, the Jewish Board of Deputies, is at the center of
efforts to coordinate the input of international Jewry to

At The Behest Of The Leading Poskim: Rabbonim And Dayonim In America
Prepare Takonos For Botei Din That Issue Gittin
by B. Kahn
With the encouragement and guidance of HaRav Eliashiv, rabbonim and senior
dayonim in the United States have started to formulate a set of
guidelines for botei din that deal with marriages and divorces, since
a serious breach in the correct procedures in these areas has recently come
to light.
Constant Scheming to Deprive the Poor Man of his Lamb
By S. Chemed
When UTJ MK Rabbi Shmuel Halpert put forward his proposal a
year ago to increase the National Insurance Child Benefit
allowance from the fifth child onwards, the previous Finance
Minister, Avraham Shochat staunchly opposed this proposal,
terming it "corrupt." However, despite the backing Shochat
received from members of his own party and other anti-
religious parties, Rabbi Halpert's bill was approved and
became law, accompanied by the ranting of the Finance
Minister.
Sharon to let Peres Negotiate
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon gave a conditional and
limited approval for Foreign Minister Shimon Peres to meet
with senior Palestinian officials and discuss how to bring
about a cessation of hostilities. Peres has insisted that
negotiations are a priority; Sharon has merely proclaimed
that there can be no negotiations without a cessation of
violence.
Observations: Antisemitism in England
by B. Rapoport
The following letter to the editor appeared in last Thursday's Ha'aretz
newspaper in Israel.
"Israel is reported to be compiling a list of countries in which its
officials might be in danger of arrest for war crimes allegations. Never
mind officials -- all an ordinary citizen has to do is say `Israel' to get
attacked by members of the public.
Observations: Profits Versus Losses
by Y. Freind
Ironically, heavy smoking generates considerable economic
benefits to some, and heavy smokers bring large amounts of
money into state coffers -- truly large amounts of money --
in the form of health-care savings because of the premature
death that results from heavy smoking.
OPINION &
COMMENT
Is there a Lower Form of Life than a Suicide Bomber?
There is absolutely nothing like it in the entire world. A
creature nurtured on hate and with the support of large
portions of his community, is told to search out a large
crowd, men, women and children included.

Street Gangs -- A Vicious Cycle

A street gang is one thing we cannot blame on the school. It develops
