Kosel Stones Repaired
by Betzalel Kahn

The Religious Affairs Ministry has allocated a sum of NIS 130,000 in order to proceed with the repairing of some of the Kosel's stones which are on the verge of falling out.

In recent months it was discovered that parts of the Kosel's original stones have begun to fall out. A number of months ago the Tourism Ministry, under the supervision of Professor Yaakov Glick, zt"l, late chairman of the Kosel Safety Committee, initiated a rudimentary repair of the stones in order to assure the safety of those who go to the Kosel.

In the wake of the request Professor Glick made prior to his death, the director general of the Tourism Ministry Moshe Shimoni decided to allocate the necessary funds for a thorough repair job, which will be implemented in strict observance of the restrictions of the halocho. The halachic guidelines for these repairs will be issued by the rav of the Kosel, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, who will supervise the work, in conjunction with noted halachic authorities.

At the same time, the Religious Affairs Ministry has decided to allocate a quarter of a million shekels so that work on the installation of fans at Robinson's Arch (the large covered area on the men's side) and the Kosel Tunnels will be completed in time for the Three Weeks, when many people visit the Kosel.
