For the fourth consecutive year a very unique yeshiva has

the yeshivas; a yeshiva that takes the sting out of the
vacation days set aside for the holidays.

Each of the ten plagues that Hashem brought on the Egyptians
had its unique features and phenomena, as each one was sent
to teach and demonstrate a new aspect of Hashem's rulership
of the world. The second plague of frogs is no exception,
and I would like to share some interesting phenomena of this
plague.

Our Own Exodus from Our Own Egypt
The sifrei mussar say that the kernel of golus
Mitzrayim is found in every generation, and we always
have to uproot it. Spiritually and culturally the same
problems come up generation after generation, and we must
work to overcome them.

Additional Luach Information
Pesach falls on Sunday, 15 Nissan (April 8), in Eretz
Yisroel, and on Sunday and Monday in Chutz Le'aretz.
The days until Shevi'i Shel Pesach are Chol
HaMo'ed.
From Mussaf of Yom Tov Pesach we say morid
hatal in Shemoneh Esreih instead of vesen tal
umottor livrocho.
From Sunday night, Motzei Yom Tov Rishon Shel Pesach,
we count sefiras ha'omer until Shavuos.
The seforim hakedoshim write to make a meal on the
sixteenth of Nissan to remember the se'udas Esther
that she made when Homon was hung (Mishnah Berurah,
490:2 from the Mogen Avrohom).
Shevi'i Shel Pesach falls on Shabbos, 21 Nissan
(April 14) and in Chutz Le'aretz Sunday, 22 Nissan
(April 15) is Yom Tov Sheini Shel Goliyos - Shmini Shel
Pesach.
Many are accustomed to read Pirkei Ovos after
Minchah of Shabbos from Pesach until Rosh HaShanah

Shiurim of a Kezayis Matzoh
Most efforts to determine the specific weight of matzo
ground up the matzos and measured the flour. Now, with
siyata diShemaya and using extremely accurate
instruments, we have measures the thickness of actual matzos
and calculated the specific weight based on that. The result
was an average specific weight of 0.5 with a range of
approximately 0.45-0.55. The measurements were done by HaRav
D. Y. and R' C. B. Based on these results, we offer the
following shiurim according to the major opinions of
the proper amounts.
Hand Matzoh
If the shiur of a kezayis is the volume of 50
cubic centimeters its weight is 22.5-27.5 gram (.7875-.9625
ounces).
If the shiur of a kezayis is the volume of 45
cubic centimeters (a half of a double-sized beitzah
without its shell) its weight is approximately 20.3-24.8
gram (.7105-.868 ounces).
If the shiur of a kezayis is the volume of
33.33 cubic centimeters (a third of a double-sized
beitzah without its shell) its weight is
approximately 15.0-18.3 gram (.525-.6405 ounces).
Machine Matzoh
Concerning the shiur of a kezayis machine
matzoh the Chazon Ish ruled (as cited by HaRav Yaakov
Yisroel Kanievsky zt'l) it being a half to two thirds
of a matzoh.
For actual practice one should ask a moreh
horo'oh.

The earliest time of Kiddush Levonoh -- Iyar
The time of Kiddush Levonoh everywhere in the world
begins when it is Thursday morning, 3 Iyar (April 26). Their
actual beginning time is therefore Thursday night, the eve
of 4 Iyar, from the beginning of the night. In west U.S.A.
and Canada one can make a berochoh also on the
previous night, the eve of 3 Iyar (April 25) starting from
9:05 P.M. according to the summer clock.
The astronomical new moon follows the molad this
month by eleven hours and twenty-two minutes. After the
molad the moon remains small and low when its
earliest time of Kiddush Levonoh arrives. Those who
follow the Chazon Ish and only make a berochoh when
the moon is large and high cannot make it in west U.S.A. and
Canada at its beginning time (9:05 P.M.) since the moon is
then especially low and small, and it is approximately two
and half days after the astronomical new moon. However, on
the next evening, the eve of 4 Iyar, it is possible to make
a berochoh from the beginning of the night and it
will then be approximately three days and a half after the
astronomical new moon. In the extreme eastern countries on
the eve of 4 Iyar there are two days and three quarters from
the astronomical new moon. In the rest of the world at their
earliest time of Kiddush Levonoh the moon will be
especially large and high because of the moon's movements in
the first half of the summer, and we should not be
mevatel the merit of zerizin.
