Rabbi Porush Seeks Redress of Hekdesh Property Laws
by Eliezer Rauchberger

With a majority of 9 to 3, the Knesset Finance Committee prepared Rabbi Meir Porush's current bill for its second and third readings. The law seeks to correct distortions in the laws of hekdesh property limiting the purchasing rights of the individual.

The existing law details those eligible for exemption from the improvements tax (heteil hashbacha). However, the law does not include hekdesh property. Rabbi Porush's proposal seeks to include hekdesh property in the exemption.

In addition, existing law grants exemption to those wishing to expand the area of their apartments to 120 square meters (1200 square feet). Rabbi Porush's proposal would increase the limit to 160 meters (1600 square feet).
