Ma'ariv had an interesting article about the Dolphinarium tragedy two weeks ago. It turns out that one of the twenty youngsters killed in that suicide bombing, a certain "Roman Gorochovsky," aged 20, was actually someone named Sergei Panshcheskov. His body was flown to the Ukraine under his real name, and that was how it became known that the young Ukrainian had entered Israel under a false identity!

HaRav Yosef Sitruk Reelected Chief Rabbi of France

The offices of the Jewish Kehilla of France announced that this past Sunday (26 Sivan), 56 year-old HaRav Yosef Sitruk was reelected the Chief Rabbi of France by the General Central Assembly of the Jewish Kehilla, for a third seven- year term. HaRav Sitruk received 172 votes, compared to the 82 votes received by the other candidate, HaRav Mordechai Ben Shoshan, the 46 year-old rav of the city of Nice. Seven white ballots were cast.

Order to Dismantle Temporary Har Nof Synagogue Postponed

On 20 Sivan the Jerusalem Court for Local Affairs rejected the implementation of an order to raze a temporary synagogue in Jerusalem's Har Nof neighborhood due to a problem found in the order issued by Mayor Ehud Olmert. The demolition order was issued on Friday, 7 Sivan, within a few hours after the request as a result of pressure exerted by someone with a high government post who lives near the synagogue and who objects to the shul's presence there.

Haifa Municipality UTJ Representatives Honor Rotation Agreement

Last week, the UTJ-Agudas Yisroel internal rotation agreement in the Haifa municipality was honored by the UTJ representatives. The agreement had been made between Degel HaTorah and Agudas Yisroel members on the eve of the municipal election in Haifa. Degel HaTorah representative Rabbi Chaim Wiliger, who presided during the first half of the term of office, transferred his seat to Agudas Yisroel representative Rabbi Aryeh Blitental.

Rotation Agreement Honored in Petach Tikvah City Council

The UTJ representative in the Petach Tikvah City Council has honored a rotation agreement signed between Degel HaTorah and Agudas Yisroel on the eve of the last municipal elections. Torah study takes place twenty hours a day in the Mir, under all circumstances: in the main study hall, on the stairs, and in every corner of this illustrious edifice in which students cling to the Borei Olom," said HaRav Yitzchok Ezrachi, one of the roshei yeshiva of the Mirrer Yeshiva, in his opening remarks at the annual meeting of the Friends of the Mirrer Yeshiva held after Shavuos in Paris.

Last Friday thousands of people tearfully accompanied the distinguished Rebbetzin Mattel Schlesinger o"h on her last journey in this world. She was the widow of the late HaRav Yechiel Michel Schlesinger zt"l, rosh yeshiva and founder of Kol Torah Yeshiva. She was over 96 years old.
