Knesset Deliberates on Plans to Erect Missionary Center Near Keinut
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

The Knesset met on 9 Iyar in a special recess session called at the request of more than 25 Knesset members from various parties.

A number of requests to place proposals on the Knesset's agenda were made. Three proposals related to the Israel Festival were made by the Mafdal, Likud and Yisrael Achat parties. Meretz and Gesher filed two proposals on political and social issues. Similarly, a proposal against announced plans to establish a missionary and baptismal site near the settlement of Keinut was made by Shas.

The Government plans to announce the appointment of three new deputy ministers, all from the Shas party. David Azoulai, who is vacating his post as head of the Interior Committee, will be appointed Deputy Interior Minister. Azoulai will be replaced by Rabbi Gafni from UTJ. Yitzhak Cohen will be appointed Deputy Finance Minister, and Yitzhak Vaknin, Deputy Labor and Welfare Minister.

Prior to the convening of the plenum, the Knesset Interior Committee will hold a ceremony in honor of the installation of the committee's new chairman, Rabbi Moshe Gafni, in line with the coalition agreement between the Likud and UTJ. He will replace David Azoulai of Shas, who served as chairman of the committee during the past two years, since the establishment of the 15th Knesset. Azoulai will now serve as Interior Minister.
