Absorption Ministry Report: Limit Non-Jewish Aliya
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
A recent Immigration and Absorption Ministry report proposes
a change in the Law of Return to reduce the number of non-
Jews immigrating to Israel and to deal with the inequities
and distortions that have resulted from the demographic
changes since the original law was passed and amended.
Unprecedented Anti-Chareidi Violence in Beit
Shemesh
by Betzalel Kahn
A virtual pogrom took place in the chareidi community of
Ramat Beit Shemesh this past Shabbos (parshas
Vayishlach, 18 Kislev). This is regarded as a result of
the ever-increasing verbal incitement against the chareidi
community in Beit Shemesh,...
MKs Tell High Court To Back Off Contentious Issues
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
The Knesset plenum confirmed a decision on Monday to call on
the High Court "to avoid becoming involved in value-based,
halachic, ideological or political issues."
Secular Legal Expert Assails High
by N. Zeevi
Recent developments in the judicial sphere in Israel -
notably the Deri and Netanyahu affairs and the wave of gag
orders - have led the noted law professor Ruth Gavison to
speak out.
Thousands Gather to Hear Gedolim on Motzei Shabbos
by Rabbi Avi Shafran
If there were any empty seats on motzei Shabbos in the
cavernous Garden State Convention Center, in Somerset, New
Jersey, the site of Agudath Israel of America's 77th national
convention, they were few and far between. The hall held more
than 4000 seats -- and those standing in the adjacent exhibit
area made the figure higher still.
The following resolution was passed by the Agudath Israel Of
America at its 77th National Convention.
We hereby express our deep concern about recent developments
and trends in Israel that are eroding the Jewish character of
the Jewish State.
OPINION &
COMMENT
The High Court Cannot be Society's Moral Authority
More and more senior Israeli legal experts are criticizing the approach of current President of the High Court Aharon Barak, in terms which are remarkably similar to the criticisms leveled by the chareidi community against the High Court, but for which we were called "anti- democratic." The recent critics, however, have credentials that do not allow this charge to be used against them.
