Chanukah Celebration of Sephardic Marbitzei Torah

by Betzalel Kahn

On Thursday night 29 Kislev, a chizuk rally and Chanukah celebration for the Sephardic Marbitzei Torah was held in Jerusalem. The occasion was attended by HaRav Shmuel Auerbach of Maalos HaTorah, the heads of the Marbitzei Torah organization, roshei yeshiva and hundreds of bnei Torah.

HaRav Betzalel Pinchasi, the rosh yeshiva of Bircas Ephraim, opened the event. He passed on the greetings of HaRav Aharon Leib Steinman, who blessed all those in attendance, and expressed the hope that the rally would strengthen the Torah and the yiras Shomayim of all present.

HaRav Dov Tzvi Karelenstein, the rosh yeshiva of the Grodno yeshiva, began his speech by saying: "A revolution has occurred in the chareidi sector in Eretz Hakodesh, which has been promoted by the gedolei haTorah. The Torah world in Eretz Yisroel began to flourish on the merit of the Ponevezher Rav zt'l, and bnei yeshiva from Sephardic backgrounds who came to our yeshiva. Whoever looks at the current situation sees that we aren't exaggerating. We have much to learn from Sephardic bnei Torah, and boruch Hashem for that. I pray that the remarkable unity between the bnei yeshiva of Marbitzei haTorah and those of Ashkenazic descent continues blossoming and solidifying the Torah world, and bein odom lechavero. The remarkable unity we see will spread as will kedusha. We must foster such unity, because the world needs it.

"We must not suffer illusory barriers. We are all bnei Torah with pure hashkofos. Unity can only be fostered with those who have pure outlooks, passed down from generation to generation. We must unite under the authority of the gedolei Yisroel, in the very same manner and the according to the very some approach, together, with one heart, and that will be a chizuk for all of us. I have seen that much spiritual strengthening has resulted from collective toil in Torah. Unity is achieved through joint toil in Torah, through study and through the joint battle against the yetzer. Let us eliminate the meaningless barriers. This is the function of the Marbitzei Torah organization. Seated here are roshei yeshiva, and there is a genuine Torah atmosphere, a genuine atmosphere of omeil beTorah."
