According to a report in Ha'aretz the assessment of
IDF Military Intelligence is that the Palestinian Authority
is not expected to initiate any violence directed at Israelis
in the immediate future. The Admor of Bobov, zt"l A huge throng of over a hundred thousand bereft Jews from all
circles mournfully accompanied the saintly Admor of Bobov,
HaRav Shlomo Halberstam, zt"l, last week on his last
earthly journey. Court Petition Against Prague Cemetery Desecration The Committee for the Preservation of Jewish Cemeteries in
Europe has filed a complaint with the European Court of Human
Rights against the Czech government in an effort to stop the
ongoing desecration of a Jewish cemetery in Prague -- or at

HaRav Shmuel Halevi Wosner, the av beis din of Zichron
Meir of Bnei Brak, has issued a psak halocho stating
that groups of nonobservant tourists should not be brought to

The entire office is far from us in spirit and content. The fact that there is a President of the State of Israel is a result of the converging of the interests of those who wanted to express their perception of the State as the modern heir of the "Jewish tradition of royalty," and the political needs of Ben Gurion, the first prime minister of Israel, to find a job for his political rival, Chaim Weitzman, where he could do Ben Gurion no harm. "I myself feel very good. Like I very much belong here; an Israeli in every way. I can't change the view of whoever thinks of me as a chutznik, a kind of `defect' which they pin on me. But I don't mind living with it till one hundred and twenty," laughs Dassi, a `new' immigrant, only twenty-odd years in the country. Many years ago, the FAMILY section inaugurated a column of occasional stories depicting the positive, upbeat, inspirational side of life in Yerushalayim, which was -- and still is -- called "Urei Betuv Yerusholayim." We would like to extend this idea to include another aspect of seeing the good -- seeing the good in the so-called simple folk, those proverbial `pomegranate seeds' with which our people's Family Tree is filled. On Our Ancestors' Dead Bodies The last day for Kiddush Levonoh -- Av One can say Kiddush Levonoh in the entire world until Tuesday morning, 14 Av (Aug. 15), at 6:35 A.M., according to the Summer Clock, Israeli time. The final time is therefore in Eretz Yisroel, the eastern countries, and Europe the entire Monday night, the eve of 14 Av (Aug. 14). However, in America it is possible to make a berochoh only according to the difference in time zones in comparison to Eretz Yisroel. In western USA and Canada one can say Kiddush Levonoh until 8:35 P.M., according to the summer clock. The astronomical full moon is at 8:13 A.M., one hour and thirty-eight minutes later than the nigud emtzo'i. It is preferable in America to make a berochoh with shem and malchus until the time of the nigud emtzo'i, according to the difference in time zones in comparison to Eretz Yisroel, since it is within 15 full days from the molad than to forfeit the berochoh altogether.
