ONE from LMW
Back to the Shidduch season. I'd like to throw out an
idea:
Chazal teach that whoever builds a bayis ne'eman and
helps establish a Jewish home, is considered to have rebuilt
one of the ruins of Yerusholayim and brought the Redemption
that much closer.
The converse must also be true. If you destroy a potential
marriage, that is, if you prevent a Shidduch from coming to
fruition, you are destroying/delaying the potential
Redemption. If we are careless with words that can kill, we
wreak havoc. But if we toil in building matches and creating
Jewish homes, we are generating unity, consolidation, within
our ranks and hastening the ultimate Geula.
It is all in our hands -- and mouths.
HEADING IT OFF
I guess this tip was a result from the piece that solved
the problem of mice -- and we asked for a solution for --
lice.
My daughter is fair and seems to attract these bugs more than
other children. I send her off each morning with a perfectly
clean head -- but she comes back home fully infested. Here
is the solution that I have found works perfectly:
I crush two tablets of Resprin forte with a spoon and
dissolve into 100 ml of water. I add this to the bottle of
shampoo and this has successfully kept the lice AWAY. They
cannot stand the smell (which I can't detect). This is not at
all dangerous, and you can even use pills that have expired,
since the treatment is only external. Try it!
[A tip for combing, which you must do in any case, is to cut
hair short and rinse with conditioner. You probably know that
by now.]
POP IT
From the same reader: If popcorn kernels won't pop - - keep
them in the freezer overnight. The moisture goes into the
kernels and they will pop nicely afterwards. I always keep
the popcorn there.
[Make it a show: Let your kids watch the corn pop. If you're
doing it the old fashioned way, not by microwave, find
yourself a glass plate to put over the pot and let them stand
on chairs at a safe distance. When the popped kernels have
filled the pot halfway, you can remove the plate and the kids
can continue watching the free show.]
NOTHIN' TO DO...
For those of you looking for recreation, the Vaada Lemaan
HaShabbos has just come out with its fourth pamphlet of
excellent places to visit -- that are Shomer Shabbos. Aside
from the very fact that everyone is encouraged to patronize
these places -- and let their proprieters know that you
appreciate their Shabbos observance -- the booklet has some
interesting sites to offer with phone numbers to call for
additional information. Many are free of charge.
The pamphlet can be obtained by calling 08-974- 3503. For
those of you who do or do not have the updated version but
are not sure about the suitability or propriety of various
places, you can call Rabbi Blau at 050-540265.
Just in passing, we noticed that the botanical gardens at the
Hebrew University on Har Hatzofim does keep Shabbos, whereas
the one on Givat Ram does not!
