Thursday night 2 Nisan, a hachnosas sefer Torah
ceremony was held for the Toras Yechiel yeshiva, named after
HaRav Yechiel Wilensky zt"l. It is headed by HaRav
Ephraim Yitzchok Vladomirski who, in addition to his unique
ability to guide and train young students to probe the
gemora in-depth, is known for his special closeness to
his students. HaRav Betzalel Trovitz, a well known
educational figure, is the yeshiva's mashgiach. The
nosi of the yeshiva is HaRav Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz,
the rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponevezh LeTze'irim.
Toras Yechiel, one of the Hadras Yerushalayim institutions,
is considered one of the most outstanding yeshivos
ketanos in the country, and many seek to enter it.
The sefer Torah was contributed by Mrs. Soro Chaya
Shapiro, in memory of her parents, R' Sholom ben R' Kalman
and Devora Moncha bas R' Naftoli.
The procession bearing the sefer Torah left the home
of the Houminer family on 85 Meah Shearim Street (Battei
Neitin 2), heading towards Chazonovitch Street where the
yeshiva is located, via Breslov and Baharan Streets. It was
accompanied by a band and by torches carried by the hundreds
of children who attend one of its brother institutions, the
Zichro Toras Moshe cheder that has been the object of
the sincerest form of flattery as imitators open up all over
Israel and even overseas.
At 8 in the evening, a seudas mitzvah was held in the
Bnos Yerushalayim hall. Speaking at the seuda, HaRav
Avrohom Mendelson, rosh yeshiva of Bircas Moshe
another brother institution of Toras Yechiel, stressed how
Toras Yechiel, in addition to maintaining a regular learning
program comparable to every other yeshiva ketana, also
ensures that its students will remember what they learn with
its full program of regular chazoro. It is very
important to learn Torah, but one must also try to know
Torah.
