Monday night, the 25th of Tishrei, a gala ceremony in honor
of the Chosson Kesser Torah and the Chosson Nezer Hahoro'oh
of the Rabbi Avrohom Hacohen Fund was held in the Ramat Tamir
Hotel in Jerusalem.
The names of the chassonim were announced before
Succos. They were chosen by gedolei haTorah
vehahoro'oh, who reviewed the examinations of hundreds of
candidates throughout the country and abroad.
This year's Chosson Torah is R' Arye Leib Lehr, who is
presently studying in the Meah Shearim Kollel headed by HaRav
Refoel Reichman, and in the Or Elchonon yeshiva. Chosson
Nezer Hahoro'oh is R' Dovid Twersky, who is currently
studying in the Sifsei Tzaddik kollel founded by HaRav Nochum
Rotenstein.
Prior to the event, all of the previous awardees of the fund,
which has been in existence for 15 years, gathered for a
stirring meeting which has also become an annual tradition.
The awards are distributed every year on the night of the
25th of Tishrei, the yahrtzeit of the Chasam Sofer. The
founder of the Fund, Rabbi Avrohom Hacohen, was a student of
the Chasam Sofer's disciples..
Rabbi Avrohom Hacohen, one of the prominent leaders of
American chareidi Jewry, is a staunch supporter of many Torah
and chessed enterprises in Eretz Yisroel and abroad. A
noted mohel, who has circumcised thousands of Russian
immigrants, he is the author of Bris Avrohom Hacohen, a
prominent work on the laws of bris mila.
The event was attended by many prominent roshei yeshiva,
rabbonim dayanim and talmidei chachomim. The main
address was delivered by the guest of honor, HaRav Shmuel
Akiva Schlesinger, the gaavad of Strasbourg, who
arrived in Eretz Yisroel lechvod haTorah.
In honor of the event, a new and enhanced edition of Bris
Avrohom Hacohen has been published. It was distributed to
the participants along with Otzros Hasofer, a
kuntress which contains formerly unpublished
chiddushim of the Chasam Sofer.
