The rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Hanegev, HaRav Yissochor
Meir, recently issued a call to chareidi members of Netivot
to purchase their bread from the Margalit Bakery, which is
under the supervision of the Shearis Yisroel hechsher.
This is after the sale of local Tuv Taam Bakery and the
decision of the new owners to change the hechsher.
In his letter to the community, HaRav Yissochor Meir writes
that HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv, HaRav Aharon Leib Steinman
and HaRav Chaim Kanievsky endorse the superior
hechsher of Shearis Yisroel. This letter comes in
response to an offensive disinformation campaign being waged
by certain bodies headed by Angel Bakery, the new owner of
Tuv Taam, to undermine Shearis Yisroel. Rumors were
circulated maligning the devoted avreichim and
talmidei chachomim who supervise for Shearis in the
Negev -- claims which Netivot rabbonim and roshei
yeshiva have called not merely false, but libelous.
Bnei Torah of the Negev are repelled by this
distasteful campaign. The excellent work of the
mashgichim is widely known. They maintain a high
standard of supervision over the Shearis Yisroel kashrus
network in general and over the kashrus in Netivot in
particular. The rabbonim stand fully behind these
mashgichim, pointing out that they are dedicated and
highly qualified, and that they are talmidei chachomim
and yirei Shomayim.
Roshei yeshiva in the Negev asked Angel not to
discontinue the Shearis hechsher after they bought the
local Tuv Taam bakery and told them that many Torah
institutions insist on the Shearis supervision and were
negotiating with the Margalit Bakery of Rishon LeTziyon.
Nonetheless, Angel ignored their request.
All of the Torah institutions in the Negev united in time for
the present zman and school year and ordered their
bread from the Margalit bakery. Currently all of the stores
in the chareidi communities of the Negev also order their
bread only from Margalit.
