HOME & FAMILY Preparing For The Future : Getting a Handle on Learning
Disabilities The group meets regularly, "somewhere in Israel". In an
isolated cave, by flickering candlelight, they come to learn
about the parshas hashovua from a well-versed Sefardi
Rav.
Creativity Corner : Homemade Pesach Games That Review
The Haggada - Part One by Tzvia Ehrlich-Klein Perhaps the best time to rouse our consciences to an overindulgence is precisely when we feel that pre-Pesach fatigue in the bones and NEED our Shabbos shluff.
WHAT'S COOKING?
POET'S CORNER
Post-wedding trauma can last quite a while,
Way past when the gowns go out of style,
There's company - to call and thank,
Presidents to negotiate with at the bank.
The kids must relearn how to go to sleep,
We must ford rivers of mail, ten foot deep.
Newlyweds over whom to fuss,
Since we can't [afford to] call you - won't you call us?
[Style reminiscent of Malka Adler? Not surprising. This
was written by her Brooklyn granddaughter begging for a
phone call from Bubbie.]
On Pesach Cleaning
"Removes grease and grime" it said on the label, So I began to spray, ready and able, To remove (I confess) years of baked-on mess, Pan so discolored - color, anyone's guess. Donning rubber gloves, (an unmatched pair, The matched ones had an intractable tear), Proceeded to scour. Lo and behold! That burnt-on, rusty color, so bold, Metamorphosed into something akin to gold. Silver! Oh, I remember it well! Heavy, silver-colored cast-iron, yes it does ring a bell! Repeat the process: Spray away! Look - an engraved label - what does it say? A Bundt Pan from Northland Aluminum! Although spray fumes are rising. I do not succumb. Onward, forge ahead, removing more greasy scum. Then, hands tired, turn to other Pesach work. Not that this task I plan to shirk. But kezeysim of chometz are waiting for me. Surrounding my heart, this is what I must see. And scrub to find the silver underneath that I can be.
