OPINION & COMMENT

Three Attacks on the Religious Community

At this time, it appears that there will be three core issues which will be used to attack the chareidi community of Israel in the next government: drafting yeshiva students ("the universal obligation for national service"), the imposition of secular studies in the chareidi educational system and setting up a national constitution.

Additional Luach Information-

The earliest time of Kiddush Levonoh -- Tammuz

The time of Kiddush Levonoh everywhere in the world begins when it is Thursday, 2:12 A.M., the eve of 3 Tammuz (June 18). Actually in Eretz Yisroel and Europe it is impossible to make a brocho on the moon this night since its beginning time is after the moon sets. Certainly in the eastern lands it is impossible to make Kiddush Levonoh since it is already day there. However, in America it is possible to make a brocho on this night. In eastern America one can make Kiddush Levonoh according to the difference in time zones in comparison to Eretz Yisroel, and in the rest of America from the beginning of the night.

The astronomical new moon precedes the molad this month by four hours and eight minutes and is at 10:03 P.M. In addition, since the moon approaches its lowest point (perigee) and advances extremely quickly it advances even more than its calculated position according to the molad. This information is significant for those who act according to the Chazon Ish and do not make a brocho on the moon until it is big and high in the sky. (Dinim VeHanhogos Orach Chaim pg. 86)
