OPINION & COMMENT An Agreement With Neither Money Nor
Politics -- Pure Ideology
The coalition agreement between United Torah Judaism and Ehud
Barak's One Israel Party is different. It is a purely
ideological agreement. In all its 11 paragraphs there is not
one mention of jobs for the UTJ Members of Knesset nor of any
material support for the UTJ constituency. All sections deal
only with the vital ideological interests of UTJ and, really,
the Jewish people as a whole: Torah study, respect for the
dead, Shabbos and chinuch.
The Reason for the Churban Yirmiyohu the novi laments (9:11-12), "Who is the wise man who may understand this, and who is he to whom the mouth of Hashem has spoken, that he may declare it? Why did the land perish, and is burned up like a wilderness that none passes through? And Hashem says, `Because they have forsaken My Torah which I set before them, and have not obeyed My voice, nor walked therein, but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after the Ba'alim, as their fathers taught them.'" The True Identity of Am Yisroel It is an unfortunate fact that there are sinful Jews who have donned the garb of the Hellenizers and who, Rachmono litzlan, are striving to change the identity of Am Yisroel to be like that of all other nations. Bloodshed, suicide R'l, traffic fatalities, work accidents and all other kinds of tragedies. Why is the number of human deaths on the upswing? "And you shall appoint for you cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the slayer who kills any person unaware may flee there. And the cities which you shall give shall be six cities for refuge. You shall give three cities on this side of the Jordan and three cities shall you give in the land of Canaan." To The Editor: The article by Rabbi Roth in the 11th Tammuz edition of the paper was thoughtful and well argued. We are all trying to understand what the Israeli elections mean -- for surely they effect us in chutz la'aretz as well. The Era of the Enlightened Rabble Dr. Gadi Yatziv fancies himself to be something of an expert in the growing factionalization of the Israeli political scene and its affect on government and the political leadership. Why Do They Prey on Yeshiva
Students? Following the recent disclosure that the IDF chose not to draft more than 100,000 Russian immigrants, the question was raised: If these immigrants are not drafted because the army has no need for additional soldiers, or lacks the resources to draft them, why are the politicians making such a fuss about the yeshiva students?
