by S. Singer and News Agencies

Six Jews on their way home from Friday night services were shot and wounded by a gunman who went on a two state shooting rampage against Jews, blacks and Asian-Americans. The bloodthirsty spree ended late Sunday night with the alleged gunman's suicide.

Barak Presents His Government
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Prime Minister Ehud Barak presented his government for the Knesset's approval. Barak also suffered his first real setback since the elections, when his candidate for Knesset Speaker, Shalom Simhon, was easily defeated by the premier's long-time political rival, Avraham Burg, also of the One Israel party. Barak had not offered Burg any position in his government.

Negotiating and Signing the Agreement Between UTJ and Ehud Barak
by Arye Zisman

Only one thing concerned the negotiating team of UTJ: to guarantee that the yeshivos hakedoshos would not be undermined in any way whatsoever, for that was the mission they had been charged to fulfill by the gedolei ume'orei hador.

OPINION & COMMENT

An Agreement With Neither Money Nor Politics -- Pure Ideology

The coalition agreement between United Torah Judaism and Ehud Barak's One Israel Party is different. It is a purely ideological agreement. In all its 11 paragraphs there is not one mention of jobs for the UTJ Members of Knesset nor of any material support for the UTJ constituency. All sections deal only with the vital ideological interests of UTJ and, really, the Jewish people as a whole: Torah study, respect for the dead, Shabbos and chinuch.

Well, I started in the Do It Yourself business at a rather young age. My grandfather, Murray Krinsky (of blessed memory), introduced me to painting at the age of 6....
