The Ministry of Commerce together with the Ministry of Education and the police force have come out with a joint battle against the use of explosive toys and combustible costumes which are so dangerous to children.
Naava Zaken, chairman of the inter-ministerial committee for hazardous toys within the Ministry of Commerce reported about the comprehensive national project on the subject. She said, "Each year, these explosive toys become increasingly sophisticated. These include laser flashlights, fireworks etc. which can cause blindness, burns, finger amputations and other injuries. We hereby appeal to parents to maintain supervision of their children, to warn them against the danger and to refuse to give them money to buy these dangerous playthings."
She tells about the preventive measures against the spread of these dangerous things. "We operate on two fronts: control through supervisors from the Ministry of Commerce and with the municipal police force. We reach those areas which have proven to be volatile and locate the explosives at the warehouses, imposing a steep fine of up to thirty thousand shekel plus a year's imprisonment. Similarly, we issue publicity to the parents to stress the need for being responsible for their children. This public awareness project was undertaken through the Ministry of Education and the Authority for Child Security on a broad scale for safety and prevention."
