HaRav Don Segal speaking at the gathering
The Mashgiach, HaRav Dan Segal, speaking a gathering in Jerusalem, aroused his audience with arresting words, noting that the test of this generation lies in matters of emunah and kedushah.
This is what the Chofetz Chaim commented on the mitzvah of tzitzis. In order that these fringes be a "reminder (zechirah)" and "observance (asiyah)," it is necessary to fulfill the other posuk, that one not follow [the enticements of] one's heart and eyes, for these are the strongholds of one's emunah and holiness. And thereby and consequently, we can attain the level of "you shall be holy unto Hashem your G-d." These two things complement one another for if there is sanctity, one is necessarily connected to the Shechina and to emunah. When there is emunah, one can be fortified in kedushah.
Further, the Mashgiach elaborated that one might be led to think that the prime goal of the development of technology was for the needs of man. However, this also incorporates many serious inaccuracies. Actually, in truth, modern technology is the prime instrument of the yetzer hora in our generation. It develops tools and devices to trip people up and cause one to distance himself from kedushah and emunah by creating needs for their usage and injecting the evil by the way. In order to be more effective and to get people to use these devices, the yetzer also included some necessities.
