Rain and Kinneret Watch

by Dei'ah Vedibur Staff

Our weekly report of the rain and the level of the Kineret - 5779.

As of April 11 (6 Nisan) 633 millimeters of rain had fallen in the Jerusalem area during the current season (August 1 to date). This represents 120% of the average rainfall for this period and 118% of the average rainfall for the entire season in the Jerusalem area which is 537 mm.

In most of the country the rainfall is well above the average rainfall. The main rain months are December, January and February, so it is mostly behind us.

The current level of the Kinneret is -211.47 meters below sea level, which is ABOVE the lower red line of -213 meters. The level rose 12 centimeters over the past week. It continues to rise. Reservoirs in the Golan are completely full and the overflow now goes to the Kineret. So far it has risen more than 2 meters. Last year it rose only .76 meters the entire season. Highly unlikely we will reach the full Kinneret this year which is another 3 meters. Keep davening up until Pesach.
