Our weekly report of the rain and the level of the Kineret -
5779.
As of February 21 (16 Adar I) 370 millimeters of rain had
fallen in the Jerusalem area during the current season
(August 1 to date). This represents 94% of the average
rainfall for this period and 69% of the average rainfall for
the entire season in the Jerusalem area which is 537 mm.
In most of the country the rainfall is still above the average
rainfall for the period. There was more rain in the north this week than in Jerusalem. In some places in the north, they have already gotten the amount they normally receive for the entire season.
The current level of the Kinneret is -213.08 meters below
sea level, which is below the lower red line of -213 meters.
The level rose 25.5 centimeters over the past week. It continues to rise. Reservoirs in the Golan are completely full and the overflow now goes to the Kineret. To get to the
red line we need to rise only another 0.08 meters. So far it has risen 1.5 meters. Last year it rose only .76 meters the entire season. It looks vertually certain that we will get to the lower red line. But we are a long way from the upper red line. Keep davening.
