Praying and learning for the merit of HaRav Shemaryahu Yosef
Nissim ben Basya shlita is continuing throughout the Torah
world. Many are accepting upon themselves various good
practices for his merit. Lately there has been some
improvement in his condition, but he still needs prayers.
HaRav Chaim Kanievsky and HaRav Gershon Edelstein issued a
letter clarifying the situation:
Maran the Gaon Rabbi Nissim Karelitz is ill and requires
rachamei Shomayim to recover. It is known that a tzaddik
protects the entire generation, as Rashi says on the posuk,
Hayeish bah eitz... that a tzaddik protects an entire
community, even a non-Jewish tzaddik. And even in Sodom, if
there were 50 tzaddikim or 10, it would have protected
Sodom, because a tzaddik has a good influence, and maybe the
people will do teshuva.
The Chazon Ish wrote in a letter (Part 3, 62) there in a
place where there is a true ba'al Torah his influence is
recognizable in the entire area, even if he does not speak.
The mere presence of a true ba'al Torah has influence.
