The following remarks were prepared by HaRav Chaim Kanievsky and delivered in his presence at a special gathering of the Orchos Yosher organization which is dedicated to increasing the learning of mussar.
"The antidote to the yetzer hora is the rebuke in the teachings of Chazal"
The Mishna Berurah rules that every person should establish a set time to study Mussar every day, be it a lot or a little. The Mishna Berurah explains that "whoever is greater than his neighbor has a yetzer hora which is accordingly greater." The antidote to the wiles of the yetzer hora is the rebuke through the teachings of Chazal."
Shaar Zion quotes the Chayei Adam who wrote that the obligation to study Mussar every day is greater than studying Mishnayos.
This is why the objective of the organization, Orchos Yosher, which promotes this, is so great. They have merited increasing the study of Mussar amongst Jewry and are now commencing the holy study of Chovos Halevovos. The Angel Maggid told Maran the Beis Yosef to establish his own study in this work every single day.
Fortunate is one who toils in Torah and also sets a special time for studying Mussar on a steady basis. In this merit, may he succeed in growing in Torah and yiras Shomayim and be blessed with all of the blessings in the Torah.
