The competition of "The Seventy Major Israeli Inventions" initiated by the Ministry of Economy has reached its culmination in the choice of the Iron Dome missile defense system as the chief invention of the state. The competition included 115,000 voters. The second prize was awarded to the popular WAZE road navigation program, while the third prize went to the drip irrigation invention by a narrow margin of only twelve votes less than the second prize.
The contest was organized in two shifts in which over 52,000 voters chose between the 70 inventions, nine of which made it to the second stage, representing many different categories. In this second stage, 63,000 additional voters participated, choosing the other winners down the line.
