Gafni: The Reform are the Worst

By Y. Schwartz

Chairman of the Finance Committee, MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni, addressed the Peace Conference of Ha'aretz this past Monday and said, "I am always asked at gatherings of this kind why we don't go together with the Left. The answer is that in all issues that are of core importance to us, the Left always is against us. Furthermore, their connection to the Reform, who thrust a knife in the back of our holy Torah, dictates that we cannot possibly consider partnership with them."

Rabbi Gafni added, "I sit with everyone in the Knesset, but I refuse to sit together with the Reform. They are our worst problem. They constitute a big blow against the Jewish people. We are like every citizen in the State of Israel, as a group and as individuals. This land is important to us as well as is the Israel society. But we have our priorities. I do not represent all of chareidi Jewry, certainly not in diplomatic issues. I represent Degel HaTorah which was established by HaRav Shach and our political positions are moderate.

"In our ladder of priorities, our desire is to see the State of Israel as a Jewish one, publicly so, and we wish to uphold the status quo which was signed with Ben Gurion. The Left, which goes with the Reform, represents the worst possible reality. The Reform abuse the Torah and its scholars, and as far as we are concerned, this is the most severe actuality possible," Gafni stressed.
