Heightened awareness of all sectors of Torah true Jewry promoted by Torah leaders has brought to the preservation of lives and a considerable decrease in emergency cases during the Purim, with the public obeying implicitly the halachic rulings which the eminent halachic authorities established and publicized regarding the heightened duty to be vigilant in traffic safety, both for pedestrians and drivers during these Purim days.
Under the heading of "It is a Matter of Life and Death", the prominent halachic authorities published an outspoken ruling regarding preserving the sanctity of life which supersedes all the commandments of the Torah, stating that whoever regards this lightly and makes allowances is "abetting actual murder and bloodshed." Subsequently, during the days of Purim and Shushan Purim, their cry had its effect through the marked reduction of accidents and injuries.
Many drivers, who in past years allowed themselves to drive after imbibing even small quantities of alcohol, testified that this year they abstained from this altogether. The heads of Ichud Hatzolah said that aside from the noticeable decrease in the number of calls for help in such instances, they received many reports from people who were duly aroused and were cautious and vigilant.
