Palestinians Who Helped the Mark Family were Fired from Their Jobs

by Y Schwartz

The head of the Har Chevron local council, Yochai Damari, has asked Defense Minister Lieberman to grant work permits in Israel to two Palestinians who were fired from their jobs after they helped that Mark family after the awful terror attack that killed the head of the family, Rav Michael Mark Hy"d.

Damari issues a press release, in which he wrote, "In the darkness of the terror attack, two Arab residents helped in the rescue of the surviving members of the family until the Israeli first responders arrived (a period of about ten minutes). Their actions were very important in preventing further damage and more serious results.

"The first to arrive at the scene, seconds after the attack, immediately worked to open the car doors with a jack to free and extract the children, as well as to release the seat belt which was choking the mother.

"Subsequently he protected the children with his car and saw to it that no one injured them further or kidnapped them. This was in the face of dozens of cars that passed, which threatened him and demanded that he stop taking care of the children. As a result, he was fired from his job.

"After a few minutes, a doctor passed by on his way to Jerusalem. The doctor gave first aid to the wounded and continued on his way when the rescue forces arrived.

"I wrote to the Minster of Defense this week to help in giving work permits to these two. I met with them and I am familiar with the objective problems. However I believe that in this case it is our obligation as Jews to recognize those people who behave as moral people should, and as should be expected in such circumstances."

In a related matter, the General Security Services issued a report about its proactive attempts to identify potential terrorists before they act.

In order to do so, it has set up a special division to monitor the social networks on the Internet. This division has identified, in the last 9 months, 1,200 suspects of potential terrorism. Of these, 300 were detained for questioning. Their average age is 20.

Since the beginning of 2016, 1,730 Palestinians were arrested in connection with terrorism. In all 2015, a total of 2,900 were arrested and 70 Hamas cells were uncovered. In 2016, 55 such cells were broken up so far.

A total of 112 Palestinians from Yehuda and Shomron were involved in terror attacks. Of these 63 acted alone and 49 acted in pairs or threes.

The main reasons that motivated Palestinian attacks were incitement related to fictitious Israeli plans to change the status of the Har Habayis. It was the Islamic movement in the north of Israel that publicized this theme.

Other factors that were said to have motivated terrorists were the strong positive press given in the Palestinian media to terrorists, and also problems with the return of the bodies of dead terrorists.
