Amsterdam - The Municipality Will Allot Millions for Reparations for its Jews

The municipality of Amsterdam is planning to allocate ten million Euro to the Jewish community to compensate them for the fact that Holocaust survivors were forced to pay city taxes upon their return to Holland, even though they hadn't resided there during the war period. The mayor, Everhard Van Der Lan, promised that the taxes and bills paid over the years will be returned to the survivors, explaining during the course of the dedication ceremony of the new Holocaust Museum in the city which took place Sunday this week that the money will be donated for the use of public communal needs.

A Roundtable Discussion with Four Doctors on Various Vital Issues of Emunah and Medicine

Part I

On a recent evening, four observant doctors gathered with us after they had finished their work, for a roundtable discussion in the offices of Arachim. All of them are connected to the Teshuvoh movement. Some of them returned to their roots and some of them work in outreach. Each one felt at home in the offices of Arachim. Their work is in the field of medicine, but their essence is men of faith. "From my flesh I see G-d," and from the flesh of any man. They see faith, experience it, and breathe it.

The Level of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai

by HaRav Yitzchok Hutner zt'l

Delivered at the Mesibas Chasal Siddur Pesach, 5729

In honor of the holiday of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, Lag BaOmer.

The Remains of Mon, the Taste of Mon

"And bnei Yisroel ate the mon for forty years until they came to a habitable land; they ate the mon until they came to the edge of the land of Canaan" (Shemos 16:35). This posuk seems to contain a contradiction, for it mentions two different places that bnei Yisroel stopped eating mon. The gemora uses this to show that although the mon stopped descending daily when Moshe died on the seventh of Adar (at "the edge of the land of Canaan"), the people subsisted on the mon that remained in their containers until the sixteenth of Nisan when they ate from the produce of the Land (Kiddushin 38).
