Mayors throughout the country refuse to absorb the chareidi population, a fact which stymies any solution of the housing problem for this growing sector. This problem was presented before the Knesset plenum this past Monday by Treasury Minister Moshe Cachlon.
Cachlon was replying to a question raised by MK Rabbi Uri Maklev who described the pressing housing problem of the chareidi sector. Rabbi Maklev suggested to the Minister to offer incentives to mayors in order to reduce their opposition of the absorption of this segment but Cachlon refused to commit himself on the subject.
Rabbi Maklev argued that "the Treasury Minister hoisted the flag of solving the house problem and for this end, he promotes various reforms, but most of his solutions are not effective for us as adequately solving our needs."
