Daas Torah: The Rabbonim of Modi'in Illit Recommend the Flu Vaccine

The Rabbonim of Modi'in Illit put out a Kol Korei to the community to take the winter flu vaccination as "part of the obligation of hishtadlus for the mitzvah of Venishmartem lenafshoseichem." This new letter joins an earlier letter issued by a broad array of rabbonim several years ago.
Signing the letter were the rav of Kiryat Sefer HaRav Meir Kessler and the rav of Brachfeld, HaRav Yisroel Zicherman. They wrote, "As the winter season approaches, we have come to encourage all to take the vaccination against the influenza virus... and especially the target populations which were the subject of a special recommendation from doctors. ... the vaccination against flu is part of the obligation of hishtadlus for the mitzvah of Venishmartem lenafshoseichem. It is incumbent upon us and out children to prepare ourselves against this threat and to take the vaccination soon. It is better to do it early, before the cold season. With the blessing, "Hasirosi machaloh mikirbecho."
