An election prep gathering taking place in the Beit Shemesh Damesek Eliezer shul with the participation of MK Rabbi Menachem Eliezer Moses, chairman of the Yahadut HaTorah party (UTJ), was attended by dozens of administrators of educational institutions and local activists and askonim.
Rabbi Moses addressed the gathering with these words: "At such a time, when evildoers rear their heads against us, it is incumbent upon each and every one to do his utmost to distill the pure from the dross by going forth to strengthen the Yahadut HaTorah list." He read out an illustrative list of the harsh decrees passed by this last government against the chareidi sector, designed to stifle us on all sides.
"Tens of decrees were passed by the Lapid government against the chareidi public. I have compiled a list of 21 such laws passed in the nineteen months of its existence. They disenfranchised our public from housing benefits, reductions in municipal taxes, cut off support in day care centers, abolished the Nahari law and shifted the financial burden of electricity, water and sanitation upkeep of educational institutions to the parents of the students and drastically cut budgets of Torah institutions so that today, the situation is altogether unbearable.
"With Providential help, despite their unending blows, no institution or yeshiva has had to close down and the Torah world continues to flourish. But in order for us to continue to wage our battle and to care for those institutions and its important public, we need your help. Only a strong and resolute representation can help us continue to protect the ongoing existence of the Torah world, and only by increasing our power and representation can we turn the wheel back and mend all the terrible injustices caused to us."
