Kenes About the Dangers of Technology in the Workplace

By Yechiel Sever

Extensive preparations are being completed by the Ve'Idas HaRabbonim, the Committee for Fortifying the Walls of Yiddishkeit, for the forthcoming rally to take place this Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Concord Hall, Bnei Brak. It will be headed by HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman and HaRav Chaim Kanievsky, and attended by eminent leaders of Torah and Chassidus. The assembly is addressed to the general public of administrators of chareidi organizations and institutions, heads of workplaces and public representatives throughout the country in order to strengthen them and brainstorm ideas to combat the technological dangers facing said workplaces.

HaRav Shteinman and HaRav Kanievsky published this past Friday a message stating: "Since the use of technological devices employed in offices and workplaces constitutes a [spiritual] danger which applies to the upholding of Yiddishkeit, we hereby call upon each and every administrator of institutions and organizations, offices, companies and businesses, to gather and attend a chizuk assembly designed to find solutions to strengthen them through ways suited to the chareidi, G-d-fearing public."

Torah leaders added an urgent statement that "it is critical for us and for the coming generations, and is the obligation of the times."

In light of the call from our Torah leadership, hundreds of invitations have been sent out to representatives of the public, heads of institutions and administrators of offices in the chareidi sector throughout the country, representing all communities and sectors across the board, as well as heads of businesses including public accountancy, publicity firms, administrators of Torah and educational institutions and chessed organizations in the chareidi public and other offices, calling upon them in a respectable but urgent manner to rally to this cry of our Torah leaders and attend this chizuk assembly. Hundreds have, indeed, verified their intention to attend this vital meeting as a requirement of these times.
