In an emergency protest rally which took place this past Sunday in Yerushalayim regarding the draft of yeshiva students, dozens of roshei yeshiva of Sephardic yeshivos met in answer to the call of HaRav Shalom Cohen, Rosh Yeshivat Porat Yosef of the Old City. He spoke clearly and sharply against the terrible decree. "We shall prove to them that the more we present a united front, they will have no power over us. Some think that we [the Sephardim] are a weaker link and that they will be able to draft us, but this is a grave error," said the rosh yeshiva.
This vital emergency assembly of Sephardi roshei yeshiva last Sunday followed and joined the very recent historic rally of some one hundred roshei yeshiva from all over the country, thus fusing together the entire yeshiva world as one man with one heart, as a buttressed wall against the horrendous draft law.
In the course of the meeting, the roshei yeshiva discussed, among other issues, the harsh economic sanctions on the yeshiva world with the express goal of harming Torah scholars and uproot the benches of our botei medrash ch'v.
