Increased Support from Keren HaTorah to Yeshivos

An upswing of activity and increased aid to yeshivos and Torah institutions through Keren HaTorah has been promised in reaction to the persecution of the Torah world which has manifested itself this past year in Eretz Yisroel, resulting in heavy financial difficulties falling upon the heads of kollelim and roshei yeshiva.

Jerusalem Municipality to Exempt Agricultural Lands Observing Shmittah from Taxes

In response to an appeal from the chairman of United Torah Jewry party in the Jerusalem municipality, Rabbi Eliezer Rauchberger, the city has approved an exemption of municipal arnona property taxes for agricultural lands within the Jerusalem city boundaries that will keep shmittah in this upcoming year.

France: Demonstration Against the President Turned Into Anti-Semitic Fray

The Day of Anger demonstrations held by several organizations this week in Paris, supposedly intended to voice protest against President Hollande's economic policies, deteriorated into violent displays of Neo-Nazi and anti-Semitic organizations, alongside fanatical Islamic organizations. The march was organized by a group of several dozen small extreme rightist groups but they were unable to attract any major movements to demonstrate their opposition to Hollande. So instead, a mass demonstration swept through the streets of Paris screaming anti-Semitic and anti-Israel slogans and saluting with the prominent gesture - the controversial "quenelle" arm downstretched gesture some say is a reverse Nazi salute - associated with the anti-Semitic comedian Dieudonne M'bala M'bala, and even singing the theme song of French Nazi collaborators of the Second World War.

HaRav Yaakov Galinsky zt"l

In a very sorrowful funeral procession, many thousands of Bnei Brak residents headed by the elite of rabbonim, roshei yeshiva and their students, dayonim and esteemed figures of the Torah world including throngs of avreichim and bnei Torah, escorted to his final rest the renowned HaRav Yaakov Galinsky, elder of the Mussar movement, product of Yeshivas Novardok, leading maggid and mashpia of this generation who restored countless lost souls to their source and drew myriads closer to pure avodas Hashem. HaRav Galinsky passed away on Thursday afternoon, 22nd of Shevat at the age of 93.

HaRav Eliezer Gordon, zt"l Rosh Yeshivas Telz
In honor of his yahrtzeit, 4 Adar, 5670

It was a scene to which the residents of Telz were long accustomed: Reb Eliezer Gordon walking through the streets, his face radiating joy. A smile played on the corners of his lips, lips that were talking, perhaps to some invisible chavrusa. His hands waved and gestured, as when a talmid chochom argues a pilpul. Yet, the Rosh Yeshiva was walking alone.

Physical Violence and Verbal Violence

By Mordecai Plaut

Last week at Erez Crossing a Palestinian laborer from Gaza was crushed to death trying to pass through to work in Israel for the day. 15,000 Palestinians were waiting to pass through that gate at the time and the conditions were horrible. The lines move very slowly and even those who arrive very early are not assured of getting through in a reasonable amount of time.
