Preparations for a Rabbinical Conference to Fortify the Walls of Religion — Against the Internet Threat

By Yechiel Sever

Enthusiastic preparations are under way for the upcoming Conference to Eradicate the Threat of Internet planned for the upcoming weeks, per the directive of HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman and HaRav Chaim Kanievsky. Its purpose is to strengthen the safeguards established by the rabbonim against that scourge and threat which is spreading its talons to entrap our souls and can lead to total spiritual shmad and the loss of future generations of heretofore innocent and pious Jews.

In the wake of a long list of problems and spiritual dangers resulting from Internet usage and technological progress, it has been decided to organize an emergency conference of community rabbonim from all over the country to reinforce the walls of kedushoh and to bolster the safeguards established by gedolei Yisroel.

During a visit of the rabbis of many communities in his home, the Rosh Yeshiva HaRav Shteinman said, "We find ourselves in the generation preceding the arrival of Moshiach. In the Shabbos zemiros we ask that we `be spared the tribulations before Moshiach with breadth; may You cause our Redemption to sprout, and banish agony and sighing.' Who knows if the Internet evil is not part of the suffering predicted prior to the coming of Moshiach, where spiritual issues are also included, and for which we need Heavenly compassion? This is a universal problem, here in Eretz Yisroel as well as in America."

The Rosh Yeshiva advised that the convention be directed to rabbis from communities all over the country to arrest the frightening spiritual danger and to strengthen and reinforce the safeguards in this issue, which is the lifeblood of loyal Jewry. "It is very worthwhile to assemble and strengthen something which has felled so many, and whoever fortifies himself therein will hopefully speed up the Geulah which we pray to merit very soon," he said.
