MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni vehemently attacked this past Monday the Supreme Court judge who sports a knitted kipah, Elyakim Rubinstein, branding him "a rasha who steals bread from children, in wake of the court's ruling which has abolished the budget allocation for negative income grants being paid heretofore to avreichim."
The Supreme Court rescinded this payment to avreichim on the grounds that it represents a violation of `equality' and that it does not contribute to causing chareidim to join the work force.
Rabbi Gafni spoke emphatically and said, "What gain will this new ruling bring? It will not affect families that you know, families of the average avreichim whose wives work and who own the roof over their heads, but those families who don't have anything, and now, they will have even less of anything. Elyakim Rubinstein: you have taken children and denied them milk in the morning - that is what your ruling is doing. May you nurse no misconceptions but face the fact that what you have done is pure cruelty! Make no mistake - these families will lack bread to give to their young children!"
Rabbi Gafni continued, "Who are we talking about? Not about the general body of avreichim but of perhaps an eighth of this population which are utterly destitute." He shouted his words into the Knesset auditorium, accusing Judge Rubinstein: "...this arrogant, cruel and wicked man."
