After establishing an additional route for the Ben Gurion airport, the instances of flights traveling over the Holon cemetery have substantially decreased.
According to information received in these past weeks it appears that the majority of takeoffs are done along a route which does not pass over the cemetery, but those that do are only when there is a strong east wind blowing. This appears to relate to a mere 1.3% of flights, but the frequency must nevertheless be studied for over a longer period.
At this point, when there is a strong easterly wind blowing (which is common during very hot and hazy weather spells), kohanim are warned to verify whether the take off will take place on Runway 12 (which crosses over the cemetery) or Runway 26 (which is not problematic for kohanim).
