"The devices which are forbidden are literally the portal of Gehennom. Possessing one of those devices is like holding Gehennom in his hand. At any moment he may stumble chas vesholom and fall into a nether pit. It is a great mitzvah to heal this breach."
These were the words of HaRav Gershon Edelstein to a delegation of community rabbis who visited him in preparation for a planned gathering to shore up the breaches against the tragedy of the Internet and the advance of destructive technology.
He added that, "Boruch Hashem most of the tzibbur is not involved in this but to our sorrow there are some who do not fully understand the issues, and they must know that this device is Gehennom. It burns the soul and distances a person from kedushah. It turns one into an animal. One who is caught in it has a tremendous problem. It is known that these devices destroy sholom bayis and cause awesome tragedies, Rachmono litzlan."
He also added, "This war is against the Soton himself. When one fights against the Soton one must pray a lot to merit siyata deShmaya."
