Religions Ministry will Supervise Excavations at the Golani Intersection

By Yechiel Sever

A big storm erupted this past Monday in the wake of Yated Ne'eman's exposure of the extensive excavation being done at the Golani Intersection up north. Witnesses reported mountains of earth mingled with human bones strewn indiscriminately about, close to and inside burial caves, without any supervision. Following the expose, MK Rabbi Gafni met with the Deputy Minister of Religions, Eli Ben Dehaan, and Director General of the Ministry, Elchanan Glatt, who promised to arrange supervision over the work being done in the area after publicizing a public tender, as is the procedure.

In the aforesaid meeting on the subject of excavations in the area of the tomb of Chavakuk, the ministry noted that the administration, together with the appointed official over burial caves, Shalom Fried, arrived at an agreement with the Maatz Company to establish supervision over work being done on that site.

"I hope," said MK Gafni to Yated Ne'eman, "that the Ministry for Religious Services will keep its word, since responsibility in the matter is theirs. I have already spoken about this with the Ministry several months ago, but to my regret, the bureaucracy there is very heavy and powerful. I hope, however, that this time, the matter will be settled satisfactorily to prevent desecration of dead."
